Yes, you read that right. A surprise elopement.
I was very skeptical when Cory called me to ask about wedding photography and told me his plan, but he assured me that his long-time partner, Rob, loves surprises.
The two live in Kansas and Cory planned a weekend getaway to the Grand Canyon for himself and Rob, with a stop over at the Lumber Baron Inn & Gardens (or Lumber Baron Mansion) in Denver, CO for one night. What Rob didn’t know is that the next day they would be getting married.
Just like Cory said, Rob loved the surprise and the two had fun shopping for their wedding outfits together before I arrived to start documenting.
The October chill and golden hour made for some pretty dreamy couple’s portraits!
The Lumber Baron Inn always does a great job of making their guests feel welcomed and special.
Cory and Rob chose to enter their ceremony together, to one of their favorite songs, it made for the perfect gorgeous staircase moment.
.
Erin of Lumber Baron made sure that there ceremony was perfect and reflected the humor of this couple.
Only very close family attended Cory and Rob’s elopement, they all ventured out to Denver, CO in one big passenger van! I love how this family was so open to any sort of portrait idea I threw at them.
The Lumber Baron is welcoming, tasteful, and spacious- no matter the size of the wedding.
Rob’s only qualm with a surprise elopement in Colorado was that his cat couldn’t be with him. He requested this portrait ???? We can relate, Rob!
I couldn’t leave without getting few posed photos utilizing the Lumber Baron’s grand staircase.
Check out these photos of the reception. Everyone’s favorite moment of the night was Mom getting a better view of the cake cutting in this photo.
