Imami contacted me hoping for a photoshoot as a birthday present for her boyfriend Kellen.
After a phone call and some emails back and forth, I met the couple in Old Town Fort Collins.
I tried something a little out of my comfort zone for this shoot: all I brought with me for the majority of it was my camera. I left all my lighting and lenses in the car. All I had with me was my Nikon D750 and my Sigma 85mm lens (my favorite for portraits).
It had just rained, in fact it rained on me and my camera bag as I scouted out some locations around Old Town. This made colors seem brighter and the lighting seem softer during our session.
Imani and Kellen were a joy to work with: laughing easily and clearly in love. I have found that couples acting honestly in love and being willing to show that in front of me and my camera is the most important element of creating successful and compelling portraits.
I loved Imami and Kellen’s willingness to try out different spots and different poses during our session.
Finding scenes to match their coordinated outfits was an extra bonus to this session and we came up with some fun solutions.
We ended our session by returning to my car to fetch some light stands and colored gels. This enabled us to add some extra pop of color to the last few compositions of their session.
Imani and Kellen are exactly the type of fun, creative clients I love working with and hope to work with again soon!
