Dawna and Matt contacted me via a mutual friend to ask about engagement photography. My first (eager) question was, do you already have a wedding photographer? I ask because engagement sessions are a great way to get to know your wedding photographer before your big day, so I always recommend them to my wedding clients, even if they’ve already had a session. Unfortunately for me, Matt and Dawna already have an awesome out of state friend booked for their wedding.
I was honored to be chosen by two rad graphic designers for engagement portraits!
My awesome assistant, John, and I met Dawna, Matt and Keenan at Sanitas Brewing in Boulder, CO for the start of their session. Sanitas is where my fiance, Mike, and I are getting married in October, so I was super excited to be able to shoot another couple’s engagement there!
When they asked about bringing their adorable dog, Keenan on their session, my answer was what it always is: an enthusiastic yes! I love including dogs in all types of portraits! Matt and Dawna also brought along a friend, because I always recommend a dog-wrangler on photo shoots with a dog involved!
Keenan is such a ham! So many other visitors to Sanitas were taking photos of the trick he does where he sits up.
Sanitas had such a cute area out back with tiny yellow flowers. It felt like we were in a park instead of an industrial park!
For the last half of their session we all drove to Chautauqua Park, to get a view of the iconic Flatirons.
For this last shot, I used a 1/2 green MagMod gel and my AD200 light to illuminate Dawna and Matt. This allowed me to color-correct them in post to turn the sky magenta (instead of golden).
What a fun couple to get to hang out with for a couple hours and create fun portraits with! I love fun, relaxed engagement sessions like this where I get to know a couple (and their dog) better!
